Samsung Galaxy S2 | Dull Icons
In order for you to get some really cool apps like DroidWall, clockwork mod, Titanium backup on your Samsung Galaxy S2, you will require root privileges.
to do this you need to flash an insecure Kernal (XWKDD) to your phone using Windows + Odin and use SuperOne Click to root it.
its pretty straight forward you can find the link here
The first problem i had was Odin hung on "cache.img" after doing some research i switched my USB port and Odin happily continued flashing a stock firmware onto my phone.
The second Issue was that all my icons looked like they were washed out and very dull.
I held my phone side by side with another SGS2 and it really did.
I realized that it was the insecure kernal causing this, so i flashed a stock kernal to my phone, for my specific firmware version ofcourse, and that did two things.
1) removed the yellow Exclamation triangle from my boot up screen.
2) sorted out my icons
If you would like stock firmware for your SGS2 you can get it here
xda-developers have all the info you need, on much of the mobile technology out there.
Also, if you start your phone into Download Mode (holding Volume Down + Home + power)
you will notice it keeps a count of how many times your flashed your phone with a CUSTOM BINARY.
im pretty sure this will void your warranty so please do so at your own risk.
if you would like to reset your counter and go back to completely stock ROM click here
the only additional tool you need is a USB Jig which im sure you can source on eBay
